Setting up Webteic
Webteic includes sensible default settings, allowing you to begin using the platform immediately after installation. Before opening your website to members or customers, you should replace the default information and review the settings that control how your platform operates.
Sign in to the Admin Dashboard and open the System Settings Manager to begin.
1. Configure the platform settings
Open the Platform Settings tab and enter the main details used throughout the platform.
Set the Platform Email Notifications address to a real, monitored email address. Important platform notifications and alerts will be sent to this address. You can also add additional notification addresses if more than one person should receive them.
Select the correct timezone for the country or region in which your website operates. This ensures that dates, scheduled content and other time-sensitive features use the correct local time.
Enter your Platform Outgoing Email Address. This address is used when Webteic sends emails to administrators, members and customers.
The outgoing address should use a domain that has been configured correctly for sending email, including SPF and DKIM records where applicable. You do not need to create a separate mailbox such as noreply@yourdomain.com, but the domain must be properly configured or outgoing messages may bounce or be treated as spam.
Upload your website logo and favicon:
-
The website logo appears in the Members Dashboard header and in supported platform emails.
-
The favicon appears in the browser for the public website and Members Dashboard.
2. Review account and security settings
Open the Security Settings tab and decide how visitors and members can use the platform.
Choose whether visitors are allowed to register their own accounts. If registration is enabled, you can also control email activation and automatic login after registration.
If your website serves organisations, review the Company Account Registration option. You can also decide whether company information should be requested during guest checkout.
The Member Account Self Termination setting determines whether members can delete their own accounts. Disable this if account deletion must instead be handled by an administrator.
Review the login-attempt protection settings and retain suitable limits to help protect accounts against repeated login attempts.
For a live website, enable CodeIgniter Environment Mode to run the platform in production mode. Leave it disabled only during development or troubleshooting when you need application errors to be displayed.
You can also enable Encryption Mode to encrypt supported personal data stored in the database. This option relates to personal information only. Passwords, secret keys and other protected credentials are secured independently regardless of this setting.
3. Configure payment and checkout options
If your website will accept payments, open Payment Settings and select the default company and currency.
Choose all currencies that the platform may use. The currencies enabled here become available for selection inside supported modules.
Decide whether administrators should receive an email notification whenever an order is placed and whether order emails should include a PDF copy of the invoice.
You can enter a custom checkout confirmation message that customers will see following a successful transaction. Leave this field empty to use the default system confirmation.
Review the remaining checkout options, including country fields, redirects and timeout settings, and adjust them to suit your checkout process.
If your website will not accept payments, these settings can remain at their defaults.
4. Review plugins and API settings
Open Plugins & API Settings to review the external services available to the platform.
Webteic includes default configurations for services such as OpenStreetMap and ALTCHA. These can normally be used without adding separate credentials.
Services such as Google Maps, Google login, reCAPTCHA and other external integrations require credentials from your own provider account. Add the appropriate client IDs, secret keys or API keys before enabling these services.
Only enable an external service after its required credentials have been configured and tested.
5. Connect an AI provider
You can optionally connect Webteic to an AI provider such as OpenAI.
Select the provider, enter a recognisable name for the connection and add your API key. Saved API keys are encrypted by the platform.
After saving the provider, configure the AI model you want Webteic to use.
In Webteic 1.0, the AI integration is used by the Frontend Designer to provide text suggestions while editing website content. Additional AI capabilities may be introduced in future versions.
You can leave this section unconfigured if you do not want to use AI features.
6. Clone the Default Theme
Open Public Themes Management and locate the installed Default Theme.
Select Clone Theme and give the cloned theme a unique name for your website. Activate the cloned version and use it for all design and stylesheet customisation.
Do not make your website-specific changes directly to the bundled Default Theme. Future Webteic updates may include changes to the default theme files. Working from a clone keeps your customised templates and stylesheets separate and intact when updates are installed.
7. Review the settings for installed modules
Each module selected during installation has its own settings. Open every installed module and review its Settings tab before making the website public.
For example, the Blog module allows you to configure:
-
Whether comments are permitted on posts.
-
Whether only logged-in members can comment.
-
Whether tags and scheduled posts are enabled.
-
Which member roles can view or manage Blog content.
-
Whether Blog content is available through the Groups module.
-
The title and introductory text displayed on the Blog homepage.
Other modules provide settings relevant to their own features. You only need to configure the modules installed and used by your website, and these settings can be changed later.
8. Update the Main Company
Open the company manager and edit the Main Company created during installation.
Replace the default information with your own organisation or business details, including:
-
Company name
-
Address, city, county and postcode
-
Country
-
Telephone number
-
VAT or tax number, where applicable
-
Company logo
-
Terms and conditions PDF, where required
-
Invoice statement
The Main Company information is used in platform emails, invoices, orders and payment-related communications. Even if your website does not accept payments, email notifications may still use details such as the company name, address and logo.
Setup complete
Most Webteic settings are already configured out of the box. In many cases, you only need to replace the default information with your own details and decide which optional features should be enabled.
Before launching the website, confirm that:
-
The notification and outgoing email addresses are correct.
-
The outgoing email domain is properly configured.
-
The platform timezone is correct.
-
Production environment mode is enabled.
-
Your cloned theme is active.
-
Your company information is complete.
-
Any enabled payment services or external integrations have been tested.
You can return to these settings whenever you install another module, add a payment provider or connect a new external service.
